Todos os anos, o Prémio Europeu de Literatura (EUPL) premeia uma obra literária de destaque. O vencedor de 2026 foi anunciado em 29 de maio e é “I Giorni di Vetro” (Os Dias de Vidro). Esta obra excepcional receberá uma breve análise hoje.
“I Giorni di Vetro” foi escrito pela autora italiana Nicoletta Verna. Narra a história de uma personagem fictícia chamada “Redenta”. Ela nasceu em Castrocaro no mesmo dia do assassinato de Matteotti e enfrentou os terríveis dias do fascismo na Itália. Nesta história, Redenta sofre muito e tem seu destino entrelaçado com o de Iris, uma líder guerrilheira. O livro é uma história que se concentra na fragilidade da humanidade diante da história. Os livros que ficaram em segundo lugar, depois de “I Giorni di Vetro”, foram “Quand Cécile”, de Philippe Marczewski, da Bélgica, publicado pela Le Seuil, e “Falling Animals”, de Sheila Armstrong, da Irlanda, publicado pela Bloomsbury. Na edição de 2025 do EUPL, participaram os seguintes países: Áustria, Bélgica (francófona), Bósnia e Herzegovina, Geórgia, Grécia, Irlanda, Itália, Lituânia, Noruega, Romênia, Eslováquia, Espanha e Ucrânia. O prémio deste ano foi para a Itália com “I Giorni di Vetro”.
Quem leu “I Giorni di Vetro” certamente se lembra de seu enredo intrincado e bem desenvolvido. A história se passa na Itália fascista, um período de imensas dificuldades. Há duas tramas entrelaçadas: uma para o personagem Redenta e outra para Iris. Ambas as histórias se passam na Itália fascista e retratam a brutalidade da época. A primeira trama acompanha Redenta, uma vítima de poliomielite que luta contra um marido violento chamado Vetro, um oficial fascista obcecado por ela. A segunda trama concentra-se na vingança de Iris contra Vetro por ele ter dizimado sua família. Somos levados a uma “viagem” pela Itália da era fascista neste livro.
Em suma, este livro é de imenso interesse para aqueles que buscam uma boa obra sobre esse período conturbado da história italiana, com uma narrativa envolvente. Altamente recomendado.

Biografia do autor do artigo: Rafael Kopp Alvarez Procopiak nasceu no Brasil. Brasília, Distrito Federal. Iniciou estudos em Washigton, DC onde cumpriu o pré-escolar e o início da educação primária. Nessa época, acompanhou os pais (ambos diplomatas) juntamente com as duas irmãs. Em seguida, a família foi transferida para Moscou, onde prosseguiu os estudos na American School. De volta ao Brasil, continuou na American School em Brasília. Nos anos seguintes, viveu na Argentina, México e Canadá.
Na Argentina, prosseguiu os estudos na ST.George’s School, escola inglesa vinculada ao sistema educacional britânico. No México, cursou parte da secundária na “Greengates School”, também de orientação britânica, e no Canadá , Toronto, finalizou a secundária. Em Montreal, ingressou e concluiu o Bachelor’s degree in Psichology, onde foi destacado na Dean’s Letter dentre os 100 melhores estudantes da Universidade. (Concordia University) Rafael também colaborou como voluntário se integrando na equipe de boas vindas aos novos alunos apresentando o campus da universidade. Em Potugal, Faro, trabalhou também como voluntário na charitable borganization “Existir”. Como parte do programa de Mestrado em Turismo, que concluiu na Unviversidade do Algarve, Rafael foi co-autor de artigos publicados em revista britânica especializada em lazer e turismo.
Book review: “I Giorni di Vetro”
Every year the European prize for literature (EUPL) awards a prize for an outstanding literary work. The 2026 winner was announced on 29 May and is I Giorni di Vetro (The Days of Glass). This outstanding work will receive a quick review today.
“I Giorni di Vetro” is written by the Italian author Nicoletta Verna. It details the history of a fictional character by the name “Redenta”. She was born in Castrocaro in the same day as the assasination of Matteotti and faced the terrible days of fascism in Italy. In this story Redenta suffers greatly and has her destiny interwoven with that of Iris a guerrilla leader. The book is a story concentrating on the fragility of humanity in the face of history. The runners up to I Giorni di Vetro are the works by Philippe Marczewski, of Belgium, with “Quand Cécile”, from the editor Le Seuil, and Sheila Armstrong, from Ireland with “Falling Animals”, of the editor Bloomsbury. In the 2025 EUPL edition, the following countries participated in the EUPL: Austria, Belgium (French-speaking), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Ukraine. The prize this year goes to Italy with “I Giorni di Vetro”.
Those who have read I Giorni di Vetro will tell of its intricate and well developed plot. The tale is one of the fascist era in Italy, a time of immense hardship. There are two interwoven plots. One for the character Redenta and another for Iris. Both stories are set in fascist Italy and show the brutality of the era. The first plot is that of Redenta, a polio victim who struggles with a violent husband name Vetro, a fascist official who is obsessed with her. The second plot concentrates on Iris’s revenge on Vetro for his having wiped out her family. We are taken in a “trip” to Italy of the fascist era in this book.
To conclude this book is of immense interest to those searching for a good book on this difficult era of Italian history with a gripping narrative. Highly recommended.

Author biography: Rafael Kopp Alvarez Procopiak was born in Brazil. Brasília, Federal District. He began his studies in Washington, DC, where he completed pre-school and early elementary school. At that time, he accompanied his parents (both diplomats) along with his two sisters. The family then moved to Moscow, where she continued her studies at the American School. Back in Brazil, she continued at the American School in Brasilia. In the following years, he lived in Argentina, Mexico and Canada.
In Argentina, he continued his studies at ST.George’s School, an English school linked to the British education system. In Mexico, he attended part of secondary school at the Greengates School, also British, and in Canada, Toronto, he finished secondary school. In Montreal, he entered and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, where he was featured in the Dean’s Letter as one of the university’s top 100 students. (Concordia University) Rafael also worked as a volunteer on the team welcoming new students and introducing them to the university campus. In Potugal, Faro, he also worked as a volunteer for the charitable organization “Existir”. As part of the Master’s programme in Tourism, which he completed at the University of the Algarve, Rafael co-authored articles published in a British magazine specializing in leisure and tourism.
